How to extend a Bali visa and if how not to?

Are you planning a visit to Bali and wondering about the visa requirements? Bali, a popular tourist destination in Indonesia, attracts visitors from all over the world with its stunning beaches, rich cultural heritage, and vibrant nightlife. Depending on your nationality and the purpose of your visit, you may need a Visa on Arrival (VoA) or a Tourist Visit Visa. In this article, we will explore the differences between these visas and guide you through the process of extending your stay in Bali.

Visa on Arrival or Tourist Visit Visa: Which should you choose?

Before delving into the process of extending your visa, it is important to understand the two main visa options available to tourists visiting Bali.

Visa on Arrival (VoA)

Visa on Arrival is a convenient option for tourists from many countries that are eligible to apply. This allows you to enter Bali and stay for a maximum of 30 days. However, please note that this visa can only be extended once, for an additional stay of 30 days only. If you plan to stay in Bali for a longer time, you should look for alternative options.

Tourist Visit Visa

Tourist Visit Visa is suitable for those who intend to stay in Bali for more than 60 days. This visa gives you an initial stay of 60 days, which can be extended up to 2 times, for a maximum stay of 180 days. It is very important to apply for this visa offshore (before arriving in Bali) through the Indonesian Embassy, Consulate in your home country, or Agency.

Distinguish between Visa on Arrival and Tourist Visit Visa

If you are unsure about the length of your stay or the visa you currently hold, it is important to understand the difference between the permitted periods of stay of a Visa on Arrival and a Visit Tourist Visa.

Visa on Arrival (VoA) Stay Period

As previously mentioned, Visa on Arrival allows you to stay in Bali for a maximum of 30 days. It is important to note that this stay can only be extended once for a stay of 30 days only (total 60 days) and then you must leave the country.

Tourist Visit Visa Stay Period

Visit Tourist Visa, on the other hand, offers a longer stay. The initial stay granted is 60 days and can be extended up to two times and can be extended for 60 days each (stay). It is very important to start the renewal process at least ten to fifteen days before your current visa expires to ensure a smooth and legal stay in Bali.

Extending your Bali Visa: What Do You Need to Prepare?

If you are in Bali and wish to extend your stay beyond the permitted duration of your visa, it is possible to do so by following these steps:

Gather the required documents

To extend your visa, you will need to prepare the following documents:

  • Passport: Ensure that your passport is valid for at least six months from the date of your visa extension application.
  • Visa extension application form: Obtain the form from the local Immigration Office or download it from the official website.
  • Copy of your current visa and entry stamp page: Provide copies of the pages that contain your visa and the entry stamp.
  • Proof of onward travel: Present evidence of your intended departure from Indonesia, such as a flight ticket or itinerary.

Visit the local immigration office

Once you have gathered the necessary documents, you must visit the local Immigration Office in Bali. It is recommended to go early in the morning to avoid long queues. Upon arrival, submit your application form and supporting documents to the designated officer.

Pay the visa extension fee

Upon submission of your application, you will be required to pay the visa extension fee. The fee may vary depending on the duration of the extension you are requesting. It is advisable to carry enough cash, as some Immigration Offices may not accept card payments.

Attend the biometrics and interview session

After paying the fee, you will need to undergo a biometric data collection process, which includes fingerprinting and a photograph. Additionally, an immigration officer may interview you regarding the purpose of your stay and other relevant details.

Await the visa extension approval

Once you have completed the necessary procedures, your application will be processed by the Immigration Office. The processing time can vary, but it typically takes around seven working days. During this period, it is essential to remain in Bali legally.

  1. How many times can you renew a 30 day tourist visa which was obtained at the airport upon arrival. The Indonesian embassy in Australia said we could renew our visas 2 times but reading your website information it says only another 30 days. Could you clarify this for me please.
